Who can certify documents in USA?
U.S. Public Documents: (1) Is a notary public authorized to execute certified true copies of documents, including vital records (birth, death, marriage records, etc.)
Are scanned notarized documents legal?
You can send a scan or image of a notarized document via email easily. It will not hold up however in a court of law because email is too easily faked.
Can you notarize a copy certification?
Unlike notaries in many other states and countries, California notaries are not allowed to certify a copy of anything except a Power of Attorney. Even if we make the copy personally, we can’t certify it. Notaries can then notarize the declarant’s signature.
How long are certified copies valid for?
A certified copy of a document is valid as long as the document is valid. eg. a birth certificate or diploma is valid forever, a passport or driver’s licence is valid up until the document expires. So if your passport is still current, the certified copy is still current.
