Is divorce allowed in Christianity?
The Christian teachings on divorce differ between denominations. Generally divorce is frowned upon, as marriage is considered a sacrament and the couple have made promises in front of God to stay together for life.
How does God view divorce?
In the book of Matthew, Jesus says “Because of your hardness of heart Moses allowed you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so. And I say to you: whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery”.
What God thinks about divorce?
To the married I give this command (not I, but the Lord): A wife must not separate from her husband. But if she does, she must remain unmarried or else be reconciled to her husband. And a husband must not divorce his wife.
Is divorce and remarriage an unforgivable sin?
One wonders if the allowance by Moses for the Israelites to divorce and remarry was because he himself was divorced and remarried (Matt 19:8). So divorce is not the unforgivable sin. If you have been divorced, there is grace and forgiveness for you.
