How does a courthouse wedding work?
When you get married at a courthouse there is typically no designated room to get changed or prepared before the ceremony. As a result, you should arrive fully dressed and ready for the ceremony. Make sure you have your marriage license, witnesses, IDs, and money to pay for the ceremony.
What do you need to give notice of marriage?
You must bring one of the following documents in your name:
- Utility bill (dated within 3 months)
- Bank statement (dated within 1 month).
- Most recent council tax bill (dated within 1 year)
- Mortgage statement (dated within 1 year)

British, EEA and Swiss nationals can only give notice in their district of residence. If you live in different places you will need to go individually to your local register office. If either of you are non-EEA nationals, you must give notice together at a designated register office.
