Dragon age 2 gets a lot of criticism, but I recommend playing it if you enjoy the first game and want to continue the story. As like what most others have suggested, I suggest starting with the oldest, Dragon Age: Origins. BUY THE ULTIMATE EDITION OF DRAGON AGE: ORIGINS! Then play in chronological order.

Dorian’s romance is quite lovely and touching so I’d say go for him. Personally, I’ve done both, but preferred Bull. It’s quite fun, and I found Dorian’s romance a bit bland. Whichever side you pick you’ll still be able to recruit Cole and Dorian, if you do the Templar quest you recruit Cole first and Dorian later, if you do the Mage quest you recruit Dorian first and Cole later. You get both companions regardless so that’s not an issue.
